In these Terms, "we", "us" and "Sorle" mean the above. "You" means the person using the service.

By using Sorle you accept these Terms. When you create an account or make a purchase, you will be asked to accept them actively.

2What Sorle is

Sorle is a web-based application for shaping ambient soundscapes in real time. You control a soundscape along two axes — Activity and Mood — and the audio responds continuously.

Sorle is a service, not a download. You do not receive audio files. The sound content is delivered to and rendered inside the application. Access to sound content depends on your account and what you have purchased.

Sorle requires a modern web browser and an internet connection.

Sorle produces continuous audio, often over long sessions. Set your levels carefully, particularly with headphones, and take breaks.

3Accounts

You can use Sorle's free locations without an account. You need an account to purchase content, to sync your scenes across devices, and to host multiplayer sessions. You can sign in with an email code, Discord, or Google.

You are responsible for keeping access to your account secure. Accounts are personal. They may not be shared, sold, transferred, or used by more than one person.

Age

You must be at least 13 to create a Sorle account. You must be at least 18 to make a purchase or start a subscription, or have the consent of a parent or guardian. We may cancel a purchase and refund it if we learn it was made by a minor without that consent.

4Your licence to the sound content

4.1 What you get

All audio in Sorle is either created by us or sourced from public-domain (CC0) material. We own or control the rights to it.

When you use a free location, purchase a location, or hold an active subscription, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, worldwide licence to use the sound content as it is produced by the Sorle application — that is, the audio output you hear while using Sorle — for the purposes described below.

The licence covers the output. It does not transfer ownership of the underlying recordings, the FMOD projects, the sound banks, or any individual sample.

4.2 Personal licence

Included with free locations, with individual location purchases, and with the Personal subscription.

You may use Sorle's audio output for any purpose that does not generate revenue. That includes private and online tabletop sessions, personal recordings, and material you publish publicly without monetising it.

You may not use it in anything that generates revenue, whether directly or indirectly.

4.3 Creator licence (commercial)

Included with the Creator subscription.

While your Creator subscription is active, you may additionally use Sorle's audio output in work that generates revenue, including:

Work that becomes monetised later. If you publish work under the Personal licence and later monetise it — by enabling advertising, adding sponsorship, or placing it behind a paywall — you need an active Creator subscription from that point on.

When your Creator subscription ends. Work you published while the subscription was active may remain published and monetised. You do not need to take it down, edit it, or pay again for it. You may not use Sorle's audio in new revenue-generating work after the subscription ends unless you renew.

4.4 What you may not do

Under any licence, you may not:

5Free locations

Some locations are free and require no account, currently The Rusty Flagon, Downtown and The Splice. They are covered by the Personal licence in §4.2.

We may change which locations are free, at any time, without notice.

6Prices, payment and tax

Prices are shown in the application and are currently:

ItemPrice
Single location$2.99
Personal — monthly$5.99
Personal — yearly$49
Creator — yearly$89

Discounts apply automatically when you buy several locations at once.

Prices shown to consumers include any applicable VAT or sales tax. Because tax rates differ between countries, the price shown to you may differ from the price shown to someone elsewhere.

Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not receive or store your card details.

We may change prices. A price change never affects a purchase you have already made, and never affects a subscription period you have already paid for.

7Subscriptions

Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from your account. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for — you keep full access until then, and we do not refund the remaining part of a period.

If a renewal payment fails, we may suspend access until payment succeeds.

8Locations you have purchased

A location you purchase individually is yours to use for as long as Sorle operates as a service. It does not expire, and it is not affected by starting or ending a subscription.

If you hold a subscription and it ends, you keep any locations you purchased individually, under the Personal licence. Commercial rights end with the Creator subscription, as described in §4.3.

If we ever discontinue Sorle, we will give at least 90 days' notice by email to registered account holders.

9Right of withdrawal (EU/EEA consumers)

If you are a consumer in the EU or EEA, you normally have 14 days to withdraw from a distance purchase. For digital content delivered immediately, that right is lost once delivery begins — provided you have expressly consented to immediate delivery and acknowledged that you lose the right of withdrawal.

Sorle delivers access immediately. At checkout you must give that consent in order to complete your purchase. Once you have given it and access has begun, the statutory right of withdrawal no longer applies.

Our own refund policy in §10 applies regardless, and is in some respects more generous.

10Refunds

Individual location purchases. If you are not happy with a location you bought, tell us within 14 days and we will refund it. No explanation needed. Contact info@sorle.se.

Subscriptions. We do not refund subscription periods that have already begun, except as described below. You can cancel at any time to prevent the next renewal.

If something is broken. If a location does not work as described and we cannot fix it within a reasonable time, we will refund it whatever the timing, and we will extend a subscription that was affected by a prolonged outage.

Free locations are available so that you can hear what Sorle sounds like before you buy.

11The roster may change

Sorle's library of locations grows and changes over time. We may add locations, revise existing ones, or retire one.

If we retire a location you have purchased, we will offer you either a replacement location of your choice or a refund of what you paid for it.

Revisions to a location — improved sound, new material, rebalanced parameters — are included at no cost, but a revised location may not sound identical to the version you first heard.

12Custom locations

We offer two kinds of commissioned work. Briefs, timelines and delivery are agreed by email before work begins.

Priority build — $400. We build a location to your brief and move it to the front of the queue. The finished location enters the public roster and is available to all Sorle users. You receive it at no additional cost. There is no exclusivity.

Exclusive commission — $1,500. We build a location to your brief. For 12 months from delivery it is available only to you: it does not appear in the public roster, and Sorle does not make it available to any other account. After 12 months it joins the public roster. Permanent exclusivity is available on request for an additional fee.

12.1 What exclusivity covers

12.2 Revisions

Three rounds of revision are included. If after those rounds the finished location still does not meet the brief as agreed, you may cancel and we will refund 50% of the fee. The location then enters the public roster and the commission ends.

12.3 Permanent exclusivity and long-term access

Where permanent exclusivity is agreed, we recognise that the value of the work to you should not depend entirely on Sorle continuing to operate as a service.

We will act in good faith to find a workable arrangement with you, and we expect the same in return. Depending on what suits the project, that may mean delivering rendered audio of the location for use in your own productions, agreeing continued access on other terms, or something else appropriate to the circumstances. What is agreed is recorded in writing as part of the commission.

Any audio delivered under such an arrangement is licensed for your own use in your own productions. It may not be redistributed, resold, sublicensed, or made available as a sound library.

12.4 Licence

Commissioned locations are covered by the same licence terms as the rest of Sorle (§4). Revenue-generating use requires a Creator subscription.

13Content identification systems

We do not register Sorle's audio with YouTube Content ID, Facebook Rights Manager, or any comparable audio-fingerprinting system, and we undertake not to do so.

If a third party wrongly claims content in your work because of Sorle audio, contact us and we will help you dispute it, including by confirming your licence in writing.

We cannot guarantee that no third party will ever make such a claim, and we are not responsible for decisions made by platforms we do not control.

14Multiplayer sessions

A Sorle host can run a session that others join as listeners. Only the host needs a licence for the locations used. Guests do not need to own anything, and the licence covering the session is the host's.

Hosting requires an active subscription or ownership of at least one location.

15Your scenes and settings

Scene shortcuts, notes and settings you create remain yours. We store them so you can use Sorle across devices. We do not claim any rights to them.

Our handling of personal data is described in the Privacy Policy.

16Availability

We aim to keep Sorle working, but we do not promise uninterrupted or error-free service. Sorle depends on third-party infrastructure, and maintenance, outages and browser changes can interrupt it.

If Sorle is unavailable for an extended period during a paid subscription, contact us and we will extend your subscription accordingly.

17Liability

Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or under mandatory consumer protection law.

Subject to that, our total liability to you in connection with Sorle is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.

We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including lost profit, lost audience, or losses arising from a production being delayed or taken down.

18Suspension and termination

We may suspend or close an account that breaches these Terms, in particular §4.4. Where the breach is not serious, we will contact you first and give you a chance to put it right.

If we close your account for a serious breach, you are not entitled to a refund. If we close it for any other reason, we will refund the unused part of any subscription and offer compensation for locations you purchased.

You may close your account at any time.

19Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. If a change materially affects your rights, we will notify registered account holders by email at least 30 days in advance. Continuing to use Sorle after that means you accept the change. If you do not accept it, you may close your account and we will refund the unused part of any subscription.

20Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by Swedish law.

If you are a consumer in the EU, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory rules in your own country, and you may bring proceedings in your own country's courts.

Consumers in Sweden may refer a dispute to the National Board for Consumer Disputes (ARN, arn.se). Consumers elsewhere in the EU may use the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform.

Please contact us at info@sorle.se first. Most things are easier to sort out directly.
